After hearing The Beatles ‘Strawberry Fields’ and ‘Penny Lane’, Guy Fletcher became fascinated by sounds and decided to become a studio engineer.
Recording satisfied his obsession until multi-instrumentalist Guy decided that performing live was more exciting. He decided to become a musician.
He began his professional career when he joined Roxy Music for their Avalon tour in 1981.
In 1983 Guy was introduced to Mark Knopfler. They collaborated on various movie soundtracks including ‘Cal’ and ‘Comfort & Joy’.
In 1984 Mark Knopfler invited Guy to join Dire Straits to record and tour the 40 million selling ‘Brothers In Arms’ album.
Since this date Guy has been involved in all Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler projects, including the movie soundtracks ‘Last Exit To Brooklyn’, The Princess Bride’ and ‘Wag The Dog’ among others. More recently Guy has scored movies and TV series including ‘At Home With The Braithwaites’ and ‘Robbie the Reindeer’.
Collaboration with Mark Knopfler continues, working alongside Emmylou Harris in the studio and on the ‘Real Live Road Running’ tour, and as performer and co-producer of the acclaimed recent ‘Kill to Get Crimson’ album. In turn, Mark guests on ‘Inamorata’ the debut solo album by Guy Fletcher.
