Billy Sherwood has music in his blood. His father, famed composer, actor and big-band leader, Bobby Sherwood (1914-1981), himself the son of vaudeville performers, worked with such legends as Bing Crosby, Arte Shaw, Frank Sinatra, and Judy Garland. Bobby also appeared in numerous films, including "Pal Joey", with Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, and Kim Novak, and made numerous appearances on such television shows as "The Red Buttons Show", "Stars on Parade", and "The Milton Berle Show" (Mr. Berle is Billy’s godfather).

His mother, Phyllis, played vibes and sang in Bobby’s band, and was still dancing in "The Palm Spring Follies" well into her 60's.

His brother Michael, a talented composer, singer and keyboard player, is a highly sought-after session musician in Los Angeles, who has worked with such performers as Toto, Jack Russell, Lisa Loeb, and Air Supply.

Billy began his own professional career in 1981, when, at the age of sixteen, he formed his first band, Lodgic, with his brother, Michael. Lodgic was signed to A&M Records and released one album, Nomadic Sands in 1985.

Lodgic gave way to World Trade, which signed with Polydor Records in 1987, and release a self-titled debut album in 1989, and a second album, Euphoria, in 1995. "The Evolution Song", from that album, marks the first collaboration between Billy and Chris Squire.

He made his debut as a producer in 1993 on Paul Rodgers Muddy Water Blues, which was nominated for a Grammy in 1993, as Best Contemporary Blues Album, losing to Buddy Guy’s Feels Like Rain.

It was shortly after wrapping up the Muddy Water project that his long association with Yes began. In 1994, he was asked by Yes to tour as a multi-instrumentalist on their Talk tour, performing with the band for seventy-six shows between June and October. After Yes regrouped with the classic lineup in 1995, he mixed the album Keys To Ascension (1996), and engineered and produced Keys to Ascension 2 (1997). In 1996, he became a full-fledged member of Yes, co-writing and producing Open Your Eyes (1997). Yes released The Ladder, in 1998 and toured extensively for several years.

As if recording and touring with Yes wasn’t enough, Billy found time to record and produce his first solo effort, The Big Peace in 1999.

Billy departed Yes in 2000 and returned to the recording studio, in Los Angeles, working for Elias Arts as a staff composer/writer for television and jingles. It was around this same time that he was approached by Trevor Rabin to score orchestral music for the new Disney Epcot ride "Mission Space", composing the music for the planetary plaza section of the ride.

The year 2000 also saw the creation of a new project with Chris Squire: Conspiracy. A debut album was released that year, followed in 2003 by The Unknown, and a DVD, Conspiracy Live in 2006.

In 2004, the ever-busy Sherwood released a second solo album, No Comment, and a third solo project, At the Speed of Life ... was released in 2008.

His latest creation is a new band called CIRCA: featuring Yes alumni Tony Kaye and Alan White along with Jimmy Haun on guitar. In 2007, CIRCA: released a debut album, and in 2008, a live DVD was released as well.

All of this experience from orchestras to rock and roll (and everything in between) has made Billy a self-contained hybrid musician/producer who can adapt to any musical genre.

Billy and his wife Michi live near Los Angeles with their son, Ethan, and several cats.
